Blue Dart Delivery Time for Canada Visa Passports from VFS India
Your VFS tracking finally says your passport has been dispatched. The slow part is over. The Blue Dart leg is short: over the last 30 days, Blue Dart delivered 54% of Canadian visa passports the same or next day, and 9 in 10 within 3 days.
These figures come from Blue Dart's public tracking of 18,649 Canadian visa passports that VFS India sent back in the last 30 days, up to 16 October 2026. The delivery time is counted from the day VFS hands the passport to Blue Dart to the day Blue Dart marks it delivered.
What "dispatched" means in VFS tracking
The visa office in Canada's network stamps your passport. It then comes back to your VFS centre, and VFS packs it and hands it to Blue Dart. When your VFS status changes to dispatched, it means that last step has happened. Your passport has left VFS and is with the courier.
Two things follow from that:
- The visa office part is done. Nothing more is waiting on IRCC for this passport.
- From here, Blue Dart's tracking is the one to watch. VFS has no more updates to give you. The Blue Dart air waybill number on your dispatch message or email shows where the parcel is.
If you chose to collect your passport in person, this post doesn't apply to you. This site only sees passports that go back by Blue Dart, roughly a third of the total.
How long Blue Dart takes
| Last 30 days | Figure |
|---|---|
| Passports delivered | 18,649 |
| Same or next day | 54% |
| Half delivered within | 1 day |
| 9 in 10 delivered within | 3 days |
So if you live in the same city as your VFS centre, or close to it, there's a good chance the parcel reaches you the day it's sent or the day after. A few more days is still normal. Only about 1 in 10 takes longer than 3 days.
The data doesn't show why some deliveries take longer. It records when a parcel moved, not where it was going or what happened on the way. Distance from the centre, a smaller town, a weekend or a missed delivery attempt could all play a part, but this site can't tell you which one did.
The whole wait, end to end
The courier leg is only a small part of the wait. Most of it is the stamping, from the day you hand in at VFS to the day VFS sends your passport back. For passports sent in the last 7 days, half had waited 13 days or less from hand-in, and 9 in 10 had waited 27 days or less.
For the latest complete hand-in week, the week of 14 September, half were sent back within 14 days and 9 in 10 within 24. Add the Blue Dart leg on top: usually a day or so, sometimes up to 3.
To see where your own hand-in date stands, find it on the live tracker. It shows how many passports from your day and your centre have already been dispatched.
Which days passports go out
VFS sends far more Canadian passports on some weekdays than others. In the last 60 days:
| Weekday | Passports sent |
|---|---|
| Monday | 9,636 |
| Wednesday | 8,636 |
| Tuesday | 7,435 |
| Thursday | 5,394 |
| Friday | 3,848 |
Monday is the biggest day for dispatches. Friday is the smallest. If your passport hasn't gone out by Friday, the next Monday is a likely day for it, though nothing in the data promises that for any one passport.
If your passport is dispatched but hasn't arrived
Most parcels arrive within 3 days. If yours hasn't after that, work through these steps in order.
- Check the Blue Dart tracking first. Use the air waybill number, not the VFS reference. Look at the last scan. A status such as "out for delivery", "undelivered" or "held at location" tells you more than VFS can.
- Make sure your phone is on and reachable. Couriers often call before delivering a passport. If the tracking shows a failed attempt, call your local Blue Dart office and give them the waybill number.
- Check the address on your VFS paperwork. If it was wrong or incomplete, Blue Dart's local office is the quickest way to sort it out.
- Contact VFS only if there is no Blue Dart record. If VFS says dispatched but the waybill shows nothing after a working day or two, VFS is the right place to ask, because the parcel may not have been handed over yet.
- Don't ask IRCC about delivery. IRCC has finished its part by the time your passport is dispatched. It cannot track a courier parcel.
Act sooner rather than later. Blue Dart keeps tracking records for about 90 days, so an old waybill number may stop showing anything.
If it hasn't been dispatched yet
If your VFS status still doesn't say dispatched, the wait is still with the visa office. Most passports come back within the ranges above, but some take longer. The data shows when passports leave, never why one is slow, and it doesn't tell visitor, study, work and PR passports apart. If your hand-in date is mostly back and yours isn't, you're probably in the slow tenth. IRCC's web form is the place to ask about that, not VFS or Blue Dart.
You can compare your centre with the others on the comparison page. You can also follow all ten centres together on the combined tracker. Busy centres such as Jalandhar, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad have their own pages too.
What this means if you are handing in now
- The courier won't be what holds you up. Once your passport is dispatched, plan on it reaching you the same or next day, and within 3 days in 9 cases out of 10.
- The stamping is the real wait. Recent passports have taken about two weeks from hand-in to dispatch, with a slower tail. Plan around that, not around Blue Dart.
- Wait for the dispatch before you book. Once your passport is with Blue Dart, a flight a few days later is a fairly safe bet. Before that, no date is certain.
- Keep your waybill number and your phone close. Most delays in the last few days can be fixed with one call to Blue Dart.
The numbers on this site update each morning from Tuesday to Saturday. Check your centre and hand-in date on the tracker to see how many passports from your day are already on their way.
